Help: if something doesn't work

These are the problems players write to support about most often, and what to do about them. Find your situation in the list: each answer explains why it happens and where to tap.

Voice chat and microphone#

Voice chat is available only online: in rooms and in ranked games. There is none in Practice or the Tutorial. Each table has its own voice channel: the players at that table can hear you, and in a private room, so can the spectators.

At an online table, in the top right corner, there is a sound button (a speaker), and next to it a mic button. Each player's avatar has a small round speaker icon.

I can't hear anyone#

Sound is off. At an online table, the sound button cycles through three modes: sounds and voice → voice only → silent. In “silent” mode you can't hear any voices. Keep tapping the button until a mode with voice is back.

Sound was turned off in the menu or in Practice. The game remembers this, so the online table is set to “silent”. Tap the sound button at the table.

You muted the player yourself. If the icon next to their avatar shows a crossed-out speaker, tap the icon again and the sound comes back. A report with the reason “Swearing, insults” also mutes the player for you right away.

Your voice chat hasn't connected yet. In that case the mic button is gray, and there are no speaker icons next to the avatars at all. How to connect is explained below.

The ranked game is still searching for players. Voice appears only once the match starts.

A player's speaker icon is shown even if their mic is off: the icon means that your voice chat is connected. When the player speaks, the circle under the icon turns white.

Nobody can hear me#

Your mic is off. The mic is off by default: the button is red, with the mic crossed out. Tap it. When the button looks normal, your mic is on.

A new ranked match. In every new ranked match the mic turns off by itself, since you're playing with strangers. Turn it on again. In rooms, the game remembers whether you had your mic on.

No microphone access. On Android, if access wasn't granted, the button stays red. On iPhone, the button may look on even though there is no access. Check access in your phone settings: on iPhone, Settings → KORT → Microphone; on Android, Settings → Apps → KORT → Permissions → Microphone.

Your voice chat is restricted. Then the button is gray, and a message appears when you tap it. More below.

Another player muted you on their side or turned their own sound off. You can't see this and there's no way to check it.

The mic button is gray or won't respond#

The mic button has four states:

  • normal: your mic is on and people can hear you;
  • red, crossed out: voice is connected, but your mic is off;
  • gray and blinking: voice chat is connecting, wait a couple of seconds;
  • gray and not blinking: voice didn't connect, or the connection to the voice service was lost. The game keeps trying by itself, but you don't have to wait: tap the gray button to connect voice right away. When the button turns red, tap it again to turn your mic on.

Allow “KORT” to access the microphone?

Don't AllowAllow
  1. The mic button is in the top right corner, under the sound button. Red means your mic is off.
  2. Tap it.
  3. The first time, your phone will ask for microphone permission.
  4. Allow access.
  5. The button looks normal now: your mic is on and the table can hear you.

If that doesn't help, go back to the menu and join the table again: voice reconnects when you join. If the permission window doesn't appear (because you tapped “Don't Allow” before), turn on the microphone for KORT in your phone settings. If the button is gray and tapping it shows “Voice chat restricted”, that's a penalty, explained below.

In a ranked game, while “Searching for players” is on screen, the mic button does nothing: voice appears once the match starts.

How to mute a player#

Tap the round speaker icon next to their avatar. The icon gets crossed out, and you no longer hear that player. Tap it again to bring the sound back.

  1. Every player at the table has a speaker icon. When a player speaks, the circle under the icon turns white.
  2. Tap the icon of the player you don't want to hear.
  3. The speaker is crossed out: only you can't hear this player, everyone else hears them as usual.
  4. Tap it again and the sound comes back.
  • Muting only works on your side. The player won't know about it.
  • It lasts while you're in this room, even if someone reconnects. When you leave the room, muting is reset.
  • If you tap the avatar or the name plate instead of the icon, the player card opens. There you can add the player as a friend or report them.

Report sent, player muted
  1. Tap the player's avatar or name plate, not the speaker icon.
  2. The player card opens. At the bottom is “Report”.
  3. Tap “Report”.
  4. Choose a reason: “Swearing, insults” or “Hints to partner”.
  5. Here “Swearing, insults” is chosen: this kind of report mutes the player for you right away.
  6. “Report sent, player muted”. The game at the table doesn't stop.
  • What is sent with a report. Your phone always keeps the last 10 seconds of each player's voice in memory and doesn't send it anywhere. When you report someone, the last 10 seconds of that player's voice are attached to the report. A moderator listens to the recording; it is kept on the server for 30 days.
  • Who decides. Penalties are given by a person, not a program: moderators look at how many different players reported someone and listen to the recordings. The reported player doesn't find out about the report.
  • Limits. You can report the same player once every 3 hours, and send up to 10 reports a day in total. If you see “You have already reported this player”, your report is already in, no need to repeat it. “Couldn't send the report” means there's no connection or you've hit the daily limit.
  • You can only report from the table. Spectators aren't visible during a match, so you can report a spectator only in the waiting room.

“Voice chat restricted”#

This is a penalty for swearing, insults or giving hints to your partner. A window in the main menu tells you about it: it shows how long it lasts, and if the report came with a recording, there's a Listen to the recording button.

  • The time starts when you tap Got it. The restriction applies right away, but the clock only starts after you tap the button, so the full term is served.
  • While the restriction is on, the mic button is gray and you can't speak. You can still hear others. Tapping the mic shows how much time is left.
  • The game learns about a new restriction when you open the main menu. So if it was given during a game, it starts working when you return to the menu.
  • If you think you were penalized by mistake, write to smahsat@gmail.com and include your ID from your profile.

Account, Telegram and friends#

Without signing in, you play as a guest: your cups are tied to this phone. Signing in with Telegram or Apple creates an account: your cups, friends, coins and your own avatars are kept there and available on any phone. Sign in with Apple is only on iPhone; Telegram works on both iPhone and Android.

Account created. Your ID is 4518207
  1. Open “My profile” → the “Profile” tab. At the bottom is the “Account” block.
  2. Tap “Log in with Telegram”.
  3. Telegram opens and asks you to confirm logging in to KORT.
  4. Confirm.
  5. Telegram takes you back to the game by itself. Done: the account is created, and your Telegram is shown in the “Account” block.

Why it may not work:

You didn't confirm the login in Telegram, or you switched back to the game yourself without confirming. In this case the game shows no message: simply nothing happens. After a few seconds the button becomes active again. Tap it once more and be sure to confirm the login in Telegram. Wait until Telegram takes you back to the game by itself; don't switch manually.

“Signing in…” stays on screen and doesn't go away. Close the game completely, open it again, then try again.

“No internet connection” or “Something went wrong. Try again”. Check your connection and try again in a minute.

“Already linked”. This Telegram is already linked to another KORT account. One Telegram can belong to only one account. To get into that account, tap Sign out and sign in with that Telegram. You can't unlink Telegram or merge two accounts in the game.

You're not signing in from the profile page. The most reliable way is to sign in from “My profile” → “Profile” → “Account”: only there does the game show the result of the sign-in.

You can only sign in from the main menu: there is no sign-in button at the table.

New phone: my cups are gone#

Cups, friends and coins move to a new phone only through an account:

  1. On your old phone, sign in with Telegram or Apple: “My profile” → “Profile” → “Account”. If you're moving from iPhone to Android, you need Telegram: there's no Apple sign-in on Android.
  2. On your new phone, install KORT and sign in with the same Telegram or Apple ID.
  3. If you've already played ranked rounds on the new phone this month, the game will ask “Sign in?” and show how many cups are in the account and on the phone. Tap Sign in: the cups this phone earned this month will be lost, and the account's cups stay.
  • If you never signed in to an account and your old phone is gone, guest cups can't be restored.
  • Your cups may also have “disappeared” for another reason: a new season starts at the beginning of every month, and everyone is back to 1,000 cups. Cups are only given in ranked games.
  • If you signed in with a different Telegram than before, that's a different account. Check which Telegram is shown in the “Account” block.
  • Signing out doesn't delete anything: this phone just starts a new guest profile. Sign in again and everything comes back.

I can't add a friend or invite them to a table#

You're not signed in. Only players signed in with Telegram or Apple can search for players, add friends and invite them to a table.

Search finds nothing. Searching by nickname matches the start of the nickname, and several players can have the same nickname. Searching by ID is more reliable: it's the 7 digits in the player's profile. You can copy your own ID by tapping it on the “Profile” tab.

The request is “stuck” and never accepted. If the other player declined your request, you won't be told: for you it will keep saying “request sent”. Only they can fix it: if they tap “Add” themselves, you become friends right away.

My friend doesn't get the table invite. Invites don't reach players who are currently playing or searching for a ranked game. Your friend may also have turned off the “Table invites” switch on the “Friends” tab or tapped “Don't invite me for an hour”. If your friend declined, you can invite them again in 15 minutes, and you can invite the same friend no more than once every 3 minutes. The backup option is the Send a link button in the invite window.

Notifications don't arrive. The game asks for permission once: when you first have friends or requests. If you said no then, turn notifications on in your phone settings: on iPhone, Settings → Notifications → KORT; on Android, Settings → Apps → KORT → Notifications. While the game is open, a window appears right in the game instead of a notification. Table invites only reach players who are signed in.

Limits: up to 200 friends, up to 40 requests a day, up to 30 invites an hour.

Your own avatar, coins and ads#

Your own avatar (since version 1.2.6) is a portrait in the KORT style, drawn from your selfie. One drawing costs 1,000 coins and gives you 3 versions to choose from. Only one drawing can be in progress at a time. Only players signed in with Telegram or Apple can order a drawing: coins and avatars are kept in the account.

  • Camera only, no gallery. Take a photo of just yourself, facing the camera, in good light, without sunglasses. A photo of a screen or of a printed photo won't work.
  • You can change your mind within 3 days after sending the selfie, for free: tap “+ Mine” again, pick another version and tap “Choose”.
  • Pick a version within 3 days. If you don't, the versions disappear and the coins are not refunded.
  • Only the drawing service sees your selfie. It isn't shown to other players and is deleted after the drawing.
  • Up to 10 of your avatars are kept. You can switch back to a standard avatar or to one of your own at any time, for free, in the same picker. You can't delete your own avatar manually: older extra ones are removed automatically.

No “Retake” or “New” button#

This is easy to get confused about, so step by step:

  • “Retake” exists only before sending, on the photo screen next to “Send”. It's free. After “Send”, the photo has already been sent and 1,000 coins have been charged.
  • For 3 days after sending, the “+ Mine” tile opens the three versions of that drawing instead of the camera. A new drawing is started here with the New · 1 000 button. It appears instead of “Close” only if you have already chosen one of the versions and you have at least 1,000 coins.
  • If you haven't chosen a version yet, or you have fewer than 1,000 coins, this screen only shows “Choose” and “Close”, and the game doesn't explain why.
  • 3 days after sending, “+ Mine” again opens the window with the “Take a selfie” button.

CLOSENEW · 1 000CHOOSE

  1. A version is already chosen, but the screen only shows “Close” and “Choose”: there's no button for a new drawing.
  2. The reason: your balance is 640 coins, and a new drawing costs 1,000.
  3. With 1,000 coins or more, “New · 1 000” appears instead of “Close”.

What to do: choose one of the versions and tap “Choose”. Then top up your coins to 1,000, for example with ads for coins (below). After that, open “+ Mine” again: the “New · 1 000” button will be there. Tap it and the camera turns on right away.

Coins were charged, but there's no avatar#

It's still being drawn. Coins are charged as soon as you send the photo, and the drawing takes 1–2 minutes, longer if there's a queue. Open “+ Mine”: you'll see that it's still in progress, or the finished versions.

It's ready, but no version is chosen. Your avatar changes only after “Choose”. Open “+ Mine”, select a version and tap “Choose”. When the drawing is ready, the game reminds you when you return to the main menu, on the same phone the selfie was sent from. You don't get a phone notification about it.

It didn't work, and the coins are already back. If no face can be seen in the photo, the photo wasn't suitable or the service failed, the 1,000 coins come back automatically, and the game tells you what happened. If a drawing is stuck for more than an hour, the coins are also refunded automatically. You can check this in your coin history: “My profile” → “Shop” → “History”, the “Avatar refund” line.

No version was chosen within 3 days. Then the versions disappear, and coins for that drawing are not refunded.

“No camera access”. Allow KORT to use the camera: on iPhone, Settings → KORT → Camera; on Android, Settings → Apps → KORT → Permissions → Camera. No coins were charged in this case.

“Avatar drawing is unavailable right now”. The service is overloaded or temporarily off. Try again later: no coins were charged.

If coins were charged, more than an hour and a half has passed, there's no refund in “History”, and “+ Mine” opens the window with the “Take a selfie” button, write to support and include your ID.

  5. Done: +10 coins in your balance.
  • Each video gives +10 coins, up to 20 videos a day, so up to 200 coins. The 24 hours aren't counted from midnight: the limit resets 24 hours after the first of those 20 views. There's a 25-second pause between videos.
  • “Loading the ad…” or “No ads right now”: the ad network hasn't sent a video yet. Wait 10–30 seconds and tap again, and check your internet. If you use a VPN or an ad blocker, turn them off.
  • I watched it, but got no coins. Coins are given only if you watch to the end. If the connection drops at the moment the coins are added, that view won't count. You can check in “History”: the “Ad watched” line.
  • There's no “Watch an ad” row. Ads for coins are only for players signed in with Telegram or Apple, in version 1.2.6 and later. Sometimes ads are turned off for a while, and then the row isn't there either.
  • You can't buy coins on Android: purchases are only on iPhone. On Android you get coins for ads and for season places, and friends can gift them to you. You can also buy coins on an iPhone with the same account: to do that, sign in with Telegram on both phones.

Connection and playing at the table#

The table froze, a card turned semi-transparent or came back to my hand#

  • The card is semi-transparent: your move was sent, but the server didn't confirm it within 1.5 seconds. This happens with a poor connection.
  • The card came back to your hand: if the move still hasn't gone through after 4 seconds, the game returns the card and you can play again.
  • The cards in your hand and on the table don't match: the game redraws the table by itself within a couple of seconds.
  • The trump is taking a long time to be chosen: if the trump holder does nothing for 30 seconds, the server chooses the trump.

If there's no data from the server for 8 seconds, the game starts reconnecting by itself. You don't need to tap anything, just wait.

“Connection lost. Reconnecting...”#

You won't even notice short drops of up to 5 seconds: the game reconnects quietly. If it takes longer, this message appears, and the game tries to connect every 3 seconds.

  • Don't leave the game and check your internet. The game also handles switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
  • While you're gone, a bot plays for you and your seat waits for you. When you're back, you return to your own seat with your own cards.
  • After reconnecting, you'll see “Returning to the table...” while the table reloads. This usually takes a few seconds.
  • If there's no connection for 2 minutes, the game goes back to the menu. How to get back to your table is explained below.

I minimized the game and got kicked from the table#

  • iPhone. A minimized game keeps running as long as the table's voice chat is connected and the sound button isn't in “silent” mode. Otherwise, after about 30 seconds the iPhone puts the game to sleep, and it reconnects when you come back.
  • Android. While you're at an online table, the notification shade shows “You're at the table — come back to make your move”. It keeps Android from closing the game. Tap it to come back.
  • While the game is minimized, your move time keeps running: a bot will play for you, and you'll be marked “Away”.
  • Before minimizing the game, it's best to turn off your mic: it may keep working while the game is minimized.

It says “Away” and there's an “I'm back” button#

If your move time and time bank run out, a bot plays for you, and you're marked “Away”, which everyone at the table can see. After that, the bot plays for you instantly, without waiting, until you tap I'm back.

You are away — a bot is playing for you

I'M BACK
  1. Time ran out and a bot played for you. Your cards are covered by the “You are away — a bot is playing for you” panel, and you can't tap them.
  2. Tap “I'm back”.
  3. Done: your move time is normal again, and you play yourself.
  • If the button appears again after 3 seconds, your tap didn't reach the server. Tap it again.
  • In ranked games, absences are recorded. If you were away in a ranked match, a warning appears when you open the main menu, and if it keeps happening, ranked games may be closed for you for a while.

How to get back to your table#

  • Ranked game. While your match is on, the Ranked game button shows a blinking red line “Your match is on — rejoin”. Tap the button to return to your own table instead of starting a new search. This works even if you closed the game, for up to 2 hours.
  • Room. Open the lobby, the list of tables. Your table's row says “Your table — rejoin”, and you don't need to enter the code.
  • While you were gone, a bot played for you. In a ranked game, if you come back and finish the match, there's no penalty for leaving.

If you see “You joined this room from another device”, someone joined the same table from another phone with your account, and the old connection was closed.
